zizek on al jazeera
Just watched an interesting discussion with Slavoj Zizek about "the momentous changes taking place in the global financial and political system." The genius of Zizek, in my opinion, isn't so much his critical analysis of capitalism as it is his skill at trolling people (esp. liberals) in order to get them to think outside the box. He often seems to say intentionally provocative and contradictory things in order to provoke a violent intellectual response within the mind of his real and theoretical interlocutors alike, acting as a kind of dialectical koan subverting their ingrained, bourgeois assumptions about political, social, and economic realities/potentialities, effectively saying, "A new paradigm is possible." Either that, or I'm just a gullible asshole who easily falls for chubby, Slovenian philosophers/critical theorists with thick accents and ceaseless nervous tics. :\
